Jean-Philippe and his partner Laurence began dancing together in 2005 as amateurs. From 2006 to 2012 they were Canadian finalists and represented Canada at the Amateur World Championships from 2008 to 2012. In 2009 they competed at the World Games organized by the International Olympic Committee and placed 6th in the final.
In 2013 they turned professional and quickly reached the semi-final at the Freedom to Dance Competition in the UK, placing 8th in Professional Latin. Their success continued with major results including 6th at the UK Imperial Championships, 9th in the Professional Rising Star at the Blackpool Dance Festival and multiple finals at top North American events such as La Classique du Québec, Manhattan DanceSport, Empire Dance Championships and the Ohio Star Ball.
In 2015 and only two years into their professional career they placed 3rd in the Professional Rising Star at the Blackpool Dance Festival, a result not achieved for Canada since the 1990s. They represented Canada at the Professional World Championships from 2013 to 2016, making the quarter-final three years in a row and reaching the top 15 of the WDC world ranking.
